@joe_yer99 The possibilities as well... Get rid of that expressway and make it a proper urban avenue, rejig the rail lines a wee bit and you could have a station at Yorkhill (yellow) and regrade the Queen St tunnel low enough to sink the North St M8 section while we're at it. What a waste

Interesting 🧵here!
@Fuzzy19362853 @ReplacetheM8 Reading this piece It seems that some serious omissions in pre-works survey & data research was an element, & perhaps my images of the crumbling structures going back over 10 years highlight a further failing in monitoring & action on pavement & structure conditions >>

What is that black greasy dust that coats windows across the city? Is there more of it close to roads and motorways? Do people have it in the countryside? Does it coat the windows of schools next to busy roads? Is some of it this toxic tyre dust?
For decades, nobody knew why coho salmon in Seattle’s streams would swim upstream strong and healthy, then spiral, twitch and suffocate within hours of rain. Whole runs gone overnight. In 2020, researchers solved the mystery, a tyre additive called 6PPD. It reacts with ozone in

The M8 is an anachronism from the car obsessed 60s. But Transport Scotland could prove themselves as not being stuck in the past by planning the best urban artery in Europe - a beautiful green street, for all modes of transport that would boost Glasgow's livability score.
@ReplacetheM8 Sadly most of the inmates of Holyrood prefer to piss our money down the drain on roads, rather than investing it in a sustainable transport system.

The central M8 will continue costing a fortune in taxpayer money even when this section is finished. We could be spending the money building an asset for the future instead of propping up a crumbling money pit.

A bird's eye view of Glasgow city centre, captured in 1963. The sweeping arch of Queen St station is clearly visible, and the old Townhead is still recognisable, although not for much longer. What changes can you spot? 📷 Glasgow World #Glasgow

This is how some other cities are dealing with the same challenge. Glasgow features! Which approach from the book do you want Glasgow to follow? ££ Removal and replacement ? £ Working with the structure ? ££££ tunnel replacement ?

Should we embrace the M8 and ask @glasgowcc to sort out the muddle of roads, broken surfaces and underpasses beneath it?

Were they right when they said "this scar will never heal"?
A different angle on the mess created when the M8 was driven through Cowcaddens, #Glasgow, in the late '60s and early '70s. I've marked Stow College as a point of reference. Pic from Glasgow Motorway Archive.

Th first 5 years of fighting to sort out the mess that is the central M8 in Glasgow. What should we do over the next 5 years?

Japanese people run tiny shops like this because they're allowed to. We could also be allowed to, and that's what "urbanism" is all about. https://t.co/UA682kt7LX
