Californians pay the most for gas, electricity, water, and housing – and our state ranks first in poverty. The way to improve affordability in America is to do the opposite of everything Gavin Newsom has done in California.

UC San Diego is sounding the alarm that incoming students can't do basic math. They've had to add remedial courses covering elementary and junior high level skills. California has increased education spending nearly $40 billion during Newsom's tenure. And this is the result.

Californians have been charged extra fees on their phone service the last six years to fund a "Next Generation 911 System." Yet after spending $450 million, Newsom just scrapped the whole project because the technology doesn't work. Our government is broken.

The data on self-driving cars, including Waymo and to some extent Tesla, shows they are already overwhelmingly safer than human-operated vehicles. With 40,000 people dying on our roads every year, we can save tens of thousands of lives by expanding access to this technology.

I have a guest essay in @nytimes today about autonomous vehicle safety. I wrote it because I’m tired of seeing children die. Done right, we can eliminate car crashes as a leading cause of death in the United States @Waymo recently released data covering nearly 100 million

California has an $18 billion deficit, the Legislative Analyst announced. In 5 years under Newsom, the budget grew by $124 billion. Yet despite this massive spending growth, California now leads the nation in poverty, unemployment, and homelessness.

One reason Republicans should be concerned about healthcare tax credits expiring is they are largely relied on by independent contractors and small business owners/employees. Both groups are under relentless attack in California. They can't take another hit.

Newsom's Chief of Staff has been indicted on 23 felony counts in a federal corruption investigation. She was described as a "mafia boss" by even fellow Democrats. Several other Sacramento power brokers were co-conspirators. This is the culture of corruption I've warned about.

The gerrymandered Texas map has been struck down in court, but California's Prop. 50 map remains. At the last minute, Newsom and the Legislature took out language saying California will only gerrymander if Texas does. We need to end this senseless redistricting war.

I've joined @RepLiccardo to introduce bipartisan legislation to stop a massive increase in healthcare costs for 22 millions Americans whose premium tax credits are about to expire. Importantly, the extension is temporary and fully paid for, so it doesn't increase the deficit.

Prop. 50 has unfortunately brought gerrymandering back to California. But a silver lining is it also calls on Congress to establish independent redistricting nationwide. I'm working on legislation to make this a reality and end gerrymandering for good. https://t.co/hDf3r0fKy9

California voted to approve Prop 50, a measure to change election maps. Rep. Kevin Kiley, whose district will be impacted by the new map, has introduced legislation banning mid-decade gerrymandering.

California is already #1 in the nation for poverty, unemployment, and homelessness. So now Newsom has set his sights on a new distinction: #1 in gerrymandering. Princeton's Gerrymander Project called the Prop. 50 map one of the two worst gerrymanders in the last 50 years.

Meanwhile, our chamber won't vote on any of these, for two reasons - both of which involve the House willfully diminishing its own relevance. First, the House just cancelled session for the 6th straight week. Second, the House created an exception to its own rules to stop

There's a reason Newsom doesn't even show Californians the map they're voting for on the ballot. Because they would reject it. Princeton University analysts gave it an "F" grade and called it one of the two worst gerrymanders of the last 50 years.

California politicians like Gavin Newsom have been looking for any pretext to get rid of our Independent Redistricting Commission and bring back gerrymandering. They love gerrymandering because it gives them more power and you less power.

Sacramento politicians are trying to impose the most gerrymandered congressional map in the last 50 years. It was given an F by Princeton University. California deserves better than an F.
