MPD have been without a contract for nearly 3 years while patrolling one of the country's most challenging urban environments. My colleagues and I in the Legislature believe Milwaukee's leaders must act immediately to combat the increased violence. Read the full letter:

When I joined the legislature, I made it a primary priority to fight for Milwaukee County. Since then:. - Milwaukee now receives nearly $250 million in shared revenue thanks to 2023 Wisconsin Act 12.- The Legislature allowed Milwaukee to collect $200 million total in sales tax.
.@MayorMKE fired back at GOP lawmakers this afternoon, citing a 2021 @WisPolicyForum study that found Wisconsin was 50th in state-level spending on police. "As much as I appreciate the things they're saying, I would like the state to also step up."

Between shared revenue, reckless driving legislation, or securing Milwaukee ADA positions, I am clearly committed to supporting Milwaukee in any way I can. However, local officials make the decisions with the most impact on citizens, and I hope they have the courage to act.
A group of 20 GOP lawmakers are calling for MPD command staff, inluding Chief Norman, to help patrol understaffed shifts when other cops are moved downtown. Norman wouldn't answer questions when we spotted him at an event last night:.

Innocent citizens continue to be victimized by selfish individuals. The person who caused this chaos said she fled police due to "anxiety." She may feel more anxious now, facing mandatory jail time. Don't flee from police.
Family says Marquis Ward was the rideshare passenger injured when a woman being chased by police ran a red light near Brady and Humboldt and crashed into the car he was riding in.

MPD has been without a contract for years—time to settle this quickly. These contract disputes hinder recruitment the longer it continues. It's hard to hire new officers when their paychecks are in limbo.

Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman issued a statement in support of a raise for the city's officers. It came after the union for rank-and-file officers blasted city and mayor.

Thank you to @rep_august for joining my legislative luncheon last week. Local officials and businesses in the 61st Assembly District were able to share their concerns with us. I also showed Rep. August where sound barriers will be installed in Greenfield!

How does running over pedestrians not get you arrested? What message does that send to ordinary law abiding citizens?.
A mother is speaking out after the Milwaukee driver who seriously injured her daughter in a crash on Water Street was cited but not arrested, despite causing life-altering injuries. Read more:

I would like to point out that this criminal was also a felon possessing a firearm, a Class G felony and punishable for up to 10 years. If we truly care about enforcing gun laws, why don't judges use them? Why should lawmakers make new laws when we barely utilize what we have?.
You would think that a twice convicted felon for fleeing the police would warrant some jail time? Nope, not in Milwaukee County. We don’t have to live like this if our judges held people accountable.

A 55-year-old man was killed while sitting at a bus stop, Monday, when a driver fleeing police crashed into the bus stop at a high rate of speed.

Ben Christensen's family thought that justice would never be fulfilled for their loved one. That may be changing.
NEW: A doctor’s report reveals a physician believes murder suspect Amando Lang, who was released back into the community two years ago without notification, is competent to stand trial. A judge would ultimately have decide. Lang’s attorney could request a second opinion. @tmj4

Littering is bad enough, but dumping mounds of garbage is an utter shame that people have no business doing. Glad to see Milwaukee cracking down on these people that have no regard for the cleanliness of their own city.

It's a shame that Milwaukee will lose another grocery store. I don't blame residents for being upset. Despite the corporate claim of downsizing for "efficiency," I'm not sold on it. 17 homicides occurred in the area last year. Crime drains the life from our neighborhoods.
Metcalfe Park Community Bridges held an emergency town hall meeting tonight. Community members at the meeting said they want to keep the 35th and Meinecke Pick 'n Save location open. The grocery chain plans to shut it down July 18. @WISN12News
