Doing some research on a district's strategic plan, I got 5 web pages deep before I realized I was looking at a similarly named district in a different state. Which begs the question: Are these strategic plans worth anything at all if they're this generic and interchangeable?.

I've learned not to belabor the prediction strategy. We've read Dr. King's 1967 "Beyond Vietnam" speech and now we'll read the NYTimes response. We'll read the title ("Dr. King's Error"), Turn and Talk for 2 mins about what they expect to read, and now they're primed to read.

Random thought: Admin can promote direct instruction as part of the institutional culture, but they're still operating w/ a statewide teacher evaluation rubric that prizes "guide on the side," student-centered teaching. How do you resolve this tension?.

We were just collectively like, "new language to voice that students should track how a theme develops in a piece of literature? Swell!" . But NO THANK YOU to actually contending with how complex that literary text should be for instruction or how it should build knowledge.

It's tragically comic how we've ignored the text complexity and knowledge building guidance in the Common Core ELA Standards. 2014-2017 (arguably the Common Core zenith), I had HOURS of PD on the standards. Nary a word was uttered about complexity or knowledge.
