Sinusoidal amplitude modulation (SAM) is a key feature of complex sounds. Although psychophysical studies have characterized SAM perception, and neurophysiological studies in anesthetized animals...
At long last, our (@RamRamLab) paper on the subcortical encoding of sound envelope is out! 🔊🐒. Thread below. Ahead of print paper at J Neurophysiol: . Preprint:

Ram lab alumnus 👇🏼 we like him even though he studies the cortex now.
Our poster is up on the @SfNtweets website! I’ll be representing the Translational Neuroscience Division at Nathan Kline Institute in person on Monday. Come talk thalamocortical circuits and rhythm! Details below.

Our new preprint is up! We report correlations between single-unit activity and detection performance, and we report subcortical choice probabilities exceeding those typically reported in sensory cortex. (1/2).

Another successful dissertation from our lab! Chase will be working with Charlie Schroeder, @realnicenelly and @AnnieBarczak at Nathan Kline Institute in his next phase.
Proud of our friend and collaborator, @Chase_Mackey of @RamRamLab, for successfully defending his thesis yesterday. He will soon be moving up to NY to start a postdoc with Charlie Schroeder at the Nathan Kline Institute. Keep an eye on him, we know he is destined for big things!

It’s been a wonderfully productive Summer for our lab. We have one more for you. Check out our new preprint below.
🙈🔉 new preprint 🔉🙈. We used single neurons, populations, and computational modeling to find that subcortical spiking activity and a temporal integration model accounted for primate sound envelope discrimination. (1/3).

We are super excited to see what the future holds for Jane!.
On 5/9/22, I defended my dissertation! 👂🧠🐒 It was surreal to reach this culminating step in my graduate education, and to have so many colleagues, friends, and family in attendance. Next I’m headed to Johns Hopkins for my postdoc with the Glowatzki and @LauerLab! #audphd
