Kids: mostly red marrow→progressively converts to yellow, starting periphery→central. Epiphyses convert first. Adults: mostly yellow, red remains axial & proximal long bones. Reconversion can occur: anemia, smoking etc. Pattern = reverse of normal: epiphyses are affected last).

🔴Red marrow • T1: darker than fat, but brighter than muscle/disc • T2: intermediate, slightly > muscle • Chemical shift (CSI): mixed fat + water, signal drop on OP 🟡Yellow marrow • T1: bright, like fat • T2/fat-sensitive: bright again • CSI: strong fat signal, minimal H2O
