Kids: mostly red marrow→progressively converts to yellow, starting periphery→central. Epiphyses convert first. Adults: mostly yellow, red remains axial & proximal long bones. Reconversion can occur: anemia, smoking etc. Pattern = reverse of normal: epiphyses are affected last).
