This is the line I was talking about. I went by on my way to the dentist yesterday. Apparently, it got much longer by evening.
The line to vote today at Merlo Library in Chicago's 44th Ward — one of the early voting spots with the highest turnout, according to @ChicagoElection. I talked to Toria McKenzie who said she got in line around 11 a.m. this morning and was still waiting more than 5 hours later.

I had a trying day. But I was heartened to see a long line of people outside, some with earbuds, some with a book, many chatting with one another, all in line for the last day of early voting. Our experiment in self-government, with all its troubles, still gives me all the feels.

Maybe ordinary constitutional protections, as currently read by our courts, are insufficient. But that's a reason for the Supreme Court to reverse its 50-year assault on criminal procedure protections, not to create a special class who is above the law entirely. SMH. 2/2.

Yesterday's decision was horrible for many reasons, but the thing in the background that's especially repugnant is the Court's casual claim that ordinary protections for criminal defendants are BS, so we have to create new, strong ones for the important people. 1/2.
