Even more relevant this morning. Also relevant: there are profoundly better ways to cope than trying to absorb and relitigate every single postmortem detail through Being Online - there are people who need to be materially kept alive and loved through care.

Have come down with a filthy cold at 38 weeks pregnant which I cannot recommend; the only silver lining is that it was the perfect state of light delirium in which to house every episode of Rivals.

It is of course very sad to hear that she’s gone but always funny to be reminded how most of the venerable British stage actors were at best mildly annoyed about being associated with Those Films. anyway rip Miss Jean Brodie.

incisive about the contrast between the way we construct race (it deeply matters to us where someone is “from”) and the way the Victorians did. Then again, Andrea Arnold kind of already did that and EF, well…she’s interested in what she’s interested in I guess.

I think what’s so baffling about this is that Heathcliffe is so intentionally racially ambiguous in the book (the white people don’t know or care what he is! he’s just Not Them!) that there’s actually huge scope for which non-white actor you cast in this role while still being.

goofiest casting I’ve seen for a while. Pulling names at random out of the du jour actor lottery machine.

"By denying us the opportunity to preview this production, we were unable to truly understand (rather than second guess) how the audience would react to the piece" fucking exactly, what a dereliction of duty to artists and audiences. solidarity with all affected, especially Stef.

Basically three different kinds of directness from three q diff cultures, and none of them could 'appreciate' that quality in any of the others. The UK is a terrible hell country but sweet child, aren't they all.

turned to us going "they were so rude, right? out of line?" and I went very bluntly "nah it's our honeymoon, absolutely not getting involved in this" which they DID NOT LIKE (tbh n o-one had covered themselves in glory but like - we're here for the food, leave us alone).

Finally the Germans called over and asked them to keep it down, and the Americans responded by telling them to fuck off. The Germans did not like this (understandably, they also had teenage kids with them) and told THEM to fuck off, then left. The Americans then.

This has reminded me in a sideways way of an incident on our honeymoon (Azures, beautiful) where this table of about 20 Americans was being super loud in a restaurant. We didn't care that much but obviously riling the German couple at the next table.

I’ve been in the UK for a while now and honestly, I am still adjusting and learning. In many ways, the things I was lauded for in the USA: my directness, my friendliness, my commitment, and even just being a passionate person are things I am disliked for & punished for here.
