Such a pleasure to have @tadghc01 visit USyd all the way from Ireland for the last month It was a great opportunity to lay the groundwork for Tadgh's next PhD studies on death anxiety, and to begin some other research projects during his stay. Watch this space for our 1st pub!
Very grateful to have worked with and to have learned from @RachelEMenzies over the past month at @UsydPsych. The experience has enhanced my approach to research and has strengthened my PhD. Thank you to @NUIMerrionSq for your support in making this possible! @AppPsychUCC @UCC

We also need more longitudinal research and RCTs to examine whether treating death anxiety improves mental health You can read the open access paper here: https://t.co/eRYZXXTv79 Thank you to my co-authors for helping bring this mammoth meta-analysis to fruition!🥂🎉 (7/7)

What does this mean? These 110 studies show that death anxiety plays a major role in a range of mental health symptoms & behaviours. We need to consider death anxiety more when conceptualising & treating mental health conditions, especially anxiety-related disorders (6/7)

Overall, there was generally: ✅ Low evidence of publication bias ✅ High quality of evidence Importantly, it was the experimental studies which performed the best in terms of risk of bias, highlighting the robust causal impacts of death anxiety on clinical behaviour (5/7)

We also analysed data from 11 experimental studies We found that reminders of death had a moderate-to-large impact on clinically-relevant behaviours (e.g. phobic avoidance, compulsive handwashing) amongst relevant groups (e.g. people with phobias or OCD) (4/7)

Death anxiety was more strongly associated with anxiety symptoms than depression. In particular, it was most associated with symptoms of anxiety disorders and somatic symptom disorders. Smaller (but still sig) relationships were found between death anxiety & OCD, & trauma (3/7)

Data from 99 cross-sectional studies showed a medium correlation (r = .40) between death anxiety and overall psychopathology This was larger (r = .58) in studies using clinical samples of people with either mental or physical illnesses (2/7)

Very proud moment! 10 years after our theoretical paper in Clin Psych Review, today we published this (unofficial) sequel, a meta-analysis of death anxiety & mental illness We analysed data from 25,000 participants & 110 studies. What did we find? (1/7) https://t.co/HI5ZMi6zdE

#PhD candidates get paid LESS than minimum wage in Aus (and face major cost of living pressures) PhD's contribute enormously to society and the economy. We should recognise and support this #AcademicTwitter #auspol Sign this to raise the stipend

What a powerful and important segment on @theprojecttv, shedding light on conditions like migraine & endometriosis which predominantly affect women. These conditions are often stigmatised, underdiagnosed, and mismanaged. We need more research & funding to improve outcomes
The gender 'pain' gap is leaving women across Australia suffering, and now women are fighting back against a system they say is misogynistic and does not take their pain seriously.
