Untreated pain can worsen confusion, agitation & distress in dementia and this is where staff @uhbtrust are important.. Early detection = better care. #bepainaware @jacksju1 @R_OLeary1 @alzheimerssoc @MargaretGarbet6

Words aren’t the only way people with dementia say 'I hurt.' Look for facial expressions, body tension, restlessness. Look for changes in the person #dementiaawareness #painawareness #UHBcares @R_OLeary1 @jacksju1 @uhbtrust @MargaretGarbet6 @alzheimerssoc

Can you guess today's patient activity? Here's a clue. It involved instruments, microphones, ladies, laughs and lots of noise #musicforthemind Thanks to Kim the housekeeper on ward 9 and the support of @UHBCharity who provided the music via an app they purchased for us

Ward manager Stacy always supports our team. Today, she displayed her posters, gathered staff to do their dementia friends training & totally embraced what we are doing for our patients. Thank you AMU short stay for always being so welcoming to our team & to our family carers

Dr Singh said he thinks the #johnscampaign relaunch is an excellent idea & he and his doctors will document open visiting in the plan for ALL dementia patients. The therapy team have said the same & agreed to tell relatives about the policy as they can see the benefits #uhbcares

Today's task: We created a"Bored Board" with a range of activities including wordsearches, sudoku, activity packs, colouring sheets, old newspapers & various reading resources. This gives families, patients and staff an opportunity to an activity and provide meaningful engagement

Myth 11: put yourself in the carers shoes! If your relative was in hospital & you were restricted on when you could visit, how would you feel? At UHB WE understand our carers fears & feelings when their loved ones are admitted which is why we encourage open visiting #uhbcares

Myth 7: we do not know what a person with dementia may or may not notice but what we do know is that they have a better experience when their loved ones are there which us why @uhbtrust welcomes carers &supports John's Campaign #DementiaAwarenessWeek

Myth 5: At UHB we pledged to support #johnscampaign and that is what we will do. We are not treating families of people differently, we are recognising that our approach to them needs to be different for the good of our patients. #DementiaAwarenessWeek #keepcarerscaring #uhbcares

Remember that our #MentalHealth matters and is just as important as our physical health, it can be hard to start a conversation or even know where to go for support, but there is a lot of support out there. If you need to talk, reach out #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek

Heartlands Hospital supported Down syndrome day today through raising awareness and celebrating the differences that make individuals unique. Staff wore odd socks as a symbol of the extra chromosome that individuals with Down syndrome have.
