You can't claim to care about the First Amendment if you believe this. Treason is a capital offense. Imprisoning or executing people for their words is impossible to reconcile with any understanding of free speech. Incoherent and un-American.
Teaching people to hate America fundamentally destroys patriotism and the desire to defend our country. Such teachings should be viewed as treason and those who do it imprisoned.

So when China launches a special op to seize the president of Taiwan: or Russia tries to do the same for Zelensky - what exactly do we say? You can’t do that, it’s illegal?

DOGE closed offices, killed programs, eliminated jobs, and deprived people of medicine and aid. What it didn’t cut: federal spending. That went up. Of the agency's top 40 savings claims, 28 were wrong. https://t.co/LzyhKfWd8c

Absolutely shameful practice, but fantastic piece of investigative reporting. “If they’re called on it, they’ll say, ‘Oh yeah, our mistake,’” Kennedy said. “Until they’re called on it, they’re happy to let those scanner errors bring in the millions.”

Here’s another long .. and bad … purported … take down of the NY Times article on Sacks. I won’t go through everything because mostly he just seems to have a problem with basic journalism providing context on who Sacks is, but I will say he really, really blows right over the
THIS NEWS WAS NOT FIT TO PRINT Yesterday’s @nytimes piece was intellectually defunct. It bothered me so much that I thought I’d write a detailed dissection of everything that’s wrong with it. First, we should acknowledge @danprimack's reasonable analysis: he observes that no

The $140K Poverty Line Debate is Missing the Point Michael Green's viral claim that $140,000 should be the new poverty line has been thoroughly debunked. Scott Winship, Noah Smith, Tyler Cowen, and others have picked apart his methodology: he used Essex County, NJ data (94th

Wow, everything really is downstream of housing affordability. This paper (long but very interesting, recommended reading) makes a compelling case that our housing crisis helps explain the rise of the degen economy and the shape of Gen Z culture. What happens when young people

After tonight, half the Dems are going to say “look at New York, we have to run more socialists!” and the other half are going to say “look at VA, we have to run more moderates!” and the answer is yes to both. The answer is a big-tent positivity that embraces both.

Because the richest man in the world (and the owner of this site) spreads electoral bullshit nonstop, I want to tell you about my voting experience at my precinct in East Midtown Manhattan: - There's voter registry, and if you're not on it, you have to provide ID with proof of

More than 47 million Americans — including one in five children — don’t have reliable, affordable access to nutritious food. And as the cost of living skyrockets, more families are depending on SNAP benefits, or food stamps, to put food on the table.

Whenever stuff like this comes up, a *lot* of people like to claim it's just edgelord internet weirdos who have fringe views. This guy is nominated to lead the Office of the Special Counsel. At what point will the GOP seriously confront the moral rot in it?
EXCLUSIVE: Embattled Trump nominee Paul Ingrassia told Republicans that the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday should be “tossed into the seventh circle of hell” and that he has “a Nazi streak,” according to a group chat viewed by POLITICO. https://t.co/BHSud48VAh

Mr. Homan came under scrutiny after he was said to be recorded last year taking $50,000 in cash from undercover F.B.I. agents.

I say this without snark: I’d love to hear someone explain with a straight face why this charge—which under the Sentencing Guidelines results in years in prison—is justified, while the people who assaulted cops with flagpoles on Jan 6 deserved full, unconditional pardons.
A man accused of throwing a sandwich at a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent in Washington, D.C., was charged with felony assault of a federal officer.

The fact that all these Republican lawmakers are running around trying (& often, failing) to get specific carve outs in their own bill so THEIR community isn’t subject should tell you all you need to know. If they think it’s so great, why don’t they want it as-is for themselves?

Put whatever views you may have about Mamdani’s politics aside for a moment: When was the last time you saw a candidate campaign like this?
On Friday night, we walked the length of Manhattan, from Inwood Hill to Battery Park. New Yorkers deserve a Mayor they can see, hear, even yell at. The city is in the streets.

This is so fucked up. A sitting US senator being handcuffed for trying to ask a question at a DHS news conference? No matter what your political party, you can't think this is a good thing.
Despicable. Trump’s goons are roughing up and handcuffing @SenAlexPadilla as he tries to ask a simple question. This is what dictatorship looks like. Watch:

Many of my more leftist friends (and frenemies) have pushed me on whether Abundance has “a theory of power.” I often say it does — but they’re not going to like it. And that’s in part because its theory of power is liberal rather than populist.
