Today our first-year students visited Ofcom offices in London to hear how they (as the regulator for online safety), have a responsibility to make sure social media sites and other regulated online services have appropriate systems and processes in place to protect their users.

Excited for today's presentations from the first-year CDT students as they present their mini-projects. Topics range from Digital Surveillance in Africa, safeguarding consumer data in fast-fashion to Privacy and Security Challenges in the Cashless Society!

Today we were joined by Reuben Adams from UCL who led a fascinating discussion on 'Cybersecurity in a World with Human Level AI'. The topic was delivered by Reuben in a thought provoking style, leading to some interesting points for further thought!

CDT Student Phil Sheriff attended the conference on Cyber Capacity Building in Ghana where he had the opportunity to engage with leaders, decision-makers and experts working toward international cooperation for cyber resilient development. Full story here

Jessica Mcclearn and co-authors Rikke Berg Jensen & Reem Talhouk's paper has been accepted for CSCW 2024. This can be viewed as a pre-publication here https://t.co/tQgzX8uifL The paper looks at the work in Lebanon to establish security in response to failing infrastructures.

Last week we enjoyed a day of talks from our 2022 cohort as they presented their summer projects. These talks mark the completion of the first year and the official start to the research phase. Based on the fascinating range of talks, there will be plenty to look forward to!

Excited to welcome the 2023 cohort of researchers to the CDT! A full-on week of inductions, familiarising themselves with our wonderful campus and getting to know each other and fellow staff & students before commencing with the taught component of the course. Busy times ahead!
