As well as his 3 Challenge Cup Final appearances, he also refereed the State of Origin in Australia in 1983, 5 games in the Winfield Cup (NRL) in 1985 as well as 11 Test Matches. He will remembered as a real character who was infront of his time as an official.

The RFL MO department send their condolences to the family of former referee Robin Whitfield, following his passing over the weekend. Robin from Widnes was one of the leading referees in the world throughout the 1980s.
