RAF Shawbury was honoured to receive the Royal Flight for Her Majesty the Queen’s visit to Shropshire today. Service personnel lined the departure route back through the Unit, with families enjoying the opportunity to speak to Queen Camilla and bid her farewell from the County.
Yesterday, during a night flying sortie whilst delivering rear crew staff training, Flight Lieutenant Sean Leach completed his 8760th hour of flying, which is the equivalent of spending 1 year in the air.

Yesterday whilst some struggled in the snow our aircrew still managed some flying. The wildlife joined them too! Our Photographer Ian Forshaw was on hand to capture these images.
No 1 FTS Essential Night Flying Training from 6 July for 3 weeks. Our world leading training ensures the best helicopter aircrew reach the front-line. Essential to this training is to fly at night so they can operate in any environment with crews using Night Vision Devices.

Congratulations to the 4 Pilots and 4 Rearcrew that successfully graduated yesterday from Number 1 Flying Training School, part of the UK Military Flying Training System.
The graduates will now move onto their frontline Operational Conversion Units.
No.1 Flying Training School, based at RAF Shawbury, will be conducting essential night flying training from Monday 10th May 2021 for approximately 3 weeks. Crews will operate from RAF Shawbury throughout Low Flying Area 9, covering Shropshire and the borders of adjacent counties.
202 Squadron completed the first live overwater winching sortie from a Jupiter HT1 helicopter yesterday.

based squadron is part of No.1 Flying Training School (1 FTS) and is responsible for the delivery of maritime and mountain training.

Flypast on Saturday. Unfortunately the low cloud precluded many of the planned aircraft but the helicopters got through.
After two weeks of training meeting the front line, all at RAF Shawbury wish 18 Sqn the very best for their safe and efficient recovery back to RAF Odiham.
Local residents may hear the unmistakable sound of the twin-rotor Chinook early this evening as they practice circuits at RAF Shawbury between 6:30 and 7:30 pm.

Today we said goodbye to the Royal Jordanian Falcons after hosting them for the RAF Cosford Airshow. Their Extra 330 LX aircraft arrived here in parts and were assembled ready for the Air Show.
Warrant Officer Shaun Griffin, OC Force Protection Flight, marched off the Station today into retirement after almost 38 years’ service with the RAF Regiment. Best wishes for the future from your friends and colleagues at Shawbury Mr Griffin.

Congratulations to the 23 tri-Service aircrew that graduated from No.1 Flying Training School, based at RAF Shawbury, on Thursday 9th December.
15 pilots, 6 Weapons System Operators and 2 aircrewman graduated from the UK Military Flying Training System to the frontline.
On Friday 23 August a total of 22 tri-Service aircrew graduated from the Defence Helicopter Flying School (DHFS) at RAF Shawbury.

On Friday 27th November, Lt Col Jon Dufton AAC formally handed over Command of 9 Regiment Army Air Corps (AAC), part of No.1 Flying Training School, to Lt Col Stewart Pearce AAC.
The handover also marked Lt Col Dufton’s retirement after almost 38 years’ Service in the AAC.
Yesterday, we held our annual Families Day to thank families of our Whole-Force for their support throughout the year.

is part of No 1 Flying Training School. They recently conducted live winching with the Rhyl RNLI on their all weather and inshore lifeboats. Multiple winching evolutions were carried out including transfers via hi-line exercises.

Happy 107th birthday to Rose. Rose Davies joined the RAF in 1941 as a radar operator and was stationed at RAF Ventnor on the Isle of Wight during the D-Day landings of 6 June 1944. Rose remained in the service until the end of the war.
Congratulations to Majors Yegon and Kayaa. These newly Qualified Helicopter Instructors graduated on QHI/QHCI Course 396 and recently travelled home to instruct in the Kenya Air Force.
They are the first International Trainees to come through CFS(H) Sqn since the start of MFTS.
