Disappointingly, it turn out that my own post was false news... an instrument problem means the exposure during the depths of winter is very poor. So it wasn't as dull as all that... New siting is being sought before next winter.

Back to work and I discover we had the dullest (least sun) since 1956, with just 12.8hrs for the whole month. Probably explains a lot of my mood.

. @dobbies - asking you as I bought the seeds from you and I can't find any contact for Johnson's seeds! These 2 fruits have grown from 2 plants, both of which were from "table queen" seeds. They are clearly not the same, the smaller one on the left looks like a gem squash? huh?

This am, @UniRdg_Met observatory @UniofReading took the maximum temperature reading for 26th (hottest day of the year so far). Which means, as of this morning's reading, the June daytime max are WARMER than the climatology. Just 2 weeks ago the cold was newspaper worthy. #Weather

"It's a cold June" (1.6C colder than average for first 10 days of June @UniRdg_Met ) but it's still warming significantly during June as these (1991-2020) averages show. This isn't unusual ('13 &'15 similar). Globe was 1.5C warmer than pre-industry in May (11th month in a row).

Probably worth noting East side of Scotland isn't very wet, For example in the red zone, Inverbervie gets annual 703mm, 86mm in October on Average. Compare that to the West where Dunstaffnage gets 1728mm per year and 189mm in October. I'm hoping this forecast is overdoing it.

Storm Babet has brought about a rare red warning in Eastern Scotland, this is for the rainfall expected – as much as 250mm in areas, well over an average month’s rainfall in this area – around 40% of average annual rainfall in London. Is this the 1st Red rain warning?

@BBCBerkshire @UniRdg_Met just noticed a mistyping there.... 13 years had an earlier air frost. Point remains... most people probably knew what I meant.

Just told @BBCBerkshire Last night was -0.4°C @UniRdg_Met observatory last night. The earliest air frost since 1999. 13 days have been colder on the 116 year record, so unusual, but not spectacularly. I think it will hit gardeners like me, it wasn't expected to get that cold.

It's hard to be more eloquent than @ed_hawkins - possibly always, but particularly on this. I am worried. I and a bit frightened. And I do wonder, have we crossed a tipping point? Has climate change vs weather mean we haven't yet noticed? We wouldn't know.

Rediscovering music you used to love. Its like finding it the first time, only its familiar and exactly as awesome as before. My tastes in gothic dance and symphonic metal might not be everyone's but I'm sure the feeling for that rediscovery probably is.
