In this #WorldWetlandsDay2024 we want to highlight our wonderful #Amazon mangroves which support millions of people on the Brazilian coast. We have been studying these forests with the support of National Geographic and @ROLEX as part of the #perpetualplanet Amazon expeditions

Mangroves shield shorelines from storms & hurricane winds, create jobs and food security for coastal communities, and provide habitats for thousands of wildlife species. It is vital that we work to protect and restore mangroves, for people and the planet. Via @WWF

In forested #wetlands, up to 95% of #carbon is stored in deep soils & #deforestation can release large amounts of #CO2. Preserving this habitat is key to mitigating the effects of #climatechange. https://t.co/RlswUH7v7c Via @dataMares

Current policies make it likely that #globalwarming will exceed 1.5°C during the 21st century & make it harder to limit warming below 2°C. #IPCC's Synthesis Report underscores the urgency of taking more ambitious action. 👉 https://t.co/zAMzd12TGF
