Our oral presentation at #ASCO2025 today: environmental burden isn’t just a health hazard - it’s a cancer risk. Counties with higher pollution burden see more cancer, especially lung cancer. Calls for policy action to address environmental justice. @ONealCancerUAB @azar_mak

We argue for 3 key actions:.1. Clinician & patient education.2. High-quality, multi-center research.3. Policy advocacy to ensure equitable access.Patients deserve better symptom relief while fighting cancer. Let’s treat the whole patient, not just the cancer.

We highlight the landscape of supportive care devices for cancer side effects—scalp cooling for alopecia, compression sleeves for lymphedema, cold gloves for neuropathy, & more (Table 1 in article). But evidence & access gaps remain!

I didn’t go to @UofAlabama, but yesterday I toured the campus, met remarkable students, & gave a talk at my first event with the Blackburn Institute - a nonpartisan leadership society I was recently honored to be elected into for a 3 yr term to help build a stronger Alabama.

4/ We also discuss challenges in implementation—like state-by-state variability in navigator training and uncertainty around telehealth reimbursement. More clarity is needed for these codes to work effectively.

3/ There’s a catch: PIN codes come with a 20% Medicare Part B copay (for e.g. $15 for a 30 min visit). Patients who need them most may struggle to afford them, raising concerns about access and equity. Will this limit their impact? Time will tell.

2/ PIN codes aim to help patients navigate complex health systems by reimbursing non-clinical navigators. Unlike older care management codes like CCM and PCM, they can be billed multiple times across providers—potentially improving care coordination.
