New paper! Here we GPS-tracked kÄkÄ @NZEcosanctuary, and found that younger kÄkÄ were more exploratory and had larger home ranges, which increased their exposure to risk outside the safety of the fence. We also present an approach for dynamic space use.

We started these in 2020 when we were feeling isolated and siloed, and itās grown to be an inspiring and refreshing annual event. About 70 of our friends get together to nerd out on maths, share new ideas and methods, and build on each othersā questions openly and generously.

Queensland has an incredible community of mathematicians (and other mathsy friends) working toward understanding and protecting our environment, species, and ecosystems. Once a year, we host them at the Applied Mathematical Ecology Group (AMEG) at QUT for a two-day symposium.

We've just had an amazing two days hosting our annual environmental modelling symposium. It was incredible to see everyone over the past two days, and we're already looking forward to the next one!

Congratulations @CailanJS, the @QUTMathEcology team are incredibly proud. @CailanJS has done some phenomenal research into the adaptive features of cellular systems and ecosystems, showcasing some impressive mathematics.
Guess who just finished their PhD final seminar! Congratulations @CailanJS! . Thanks for teaching me that you can write your thesis doc in the last few months, that bagels are the highest form of motivation & that you can "accidentally" jigsaw-procrastinate for hours.

We were absolutely delighted to have Dr Binbin Li deliver this seminar. Not only did her talk showcase inspiring conservation research, but also shone a bright light on our fantastic masters student Zhao (@yangyuzhaomax) for organising and facilitating the talk.
Dr Binbin Li @Taotiebin recently visited @QUTMathEcology and gave a great talk. Her talk and work are truly captivating and motivating. Balancing the challenges of conservation and community development is no easy feat, but She and her team excel at both.
