I am delighted to share our preprint led by Palka @PuriPalka. Our study of preprocessing of olfactory information in flies provides insight to general principles of sensory information processing in shallow neural architectures. https://t.co/OlLDEwcs7u 🪰 #tweetprint 👇🏽 1/

Right now at UCSD, academic workers are rallying in support of Li Jiang, an international postdoc whose appointment is being terminated while she is 7 months pregnant, threatening her visa and her healthcare. We demand justice.

i’m so tired of abortion rights being framed around truly tragic circumstances like assault and incest. if you get pregnant & you don’t want to be pregnant, it is your right over your own body that is under siege. no one, including a fetus, can use your body against your consent.

The fact that we are all watching this, horrified and helpless, is going to have a chilling effect. We might have been mentally prepared for jail. But how do you prepare for the fact that if the govt doesn't like you, it'll come torture your family and tear down your home?

No employer should pay so little that an employee can only see their infant on the weekend because the cost of childcare is beyond their financial means. And yet for Francisco, and far too many other UC academic workers, these are the heart-breaking choices we are forced to make.

So when people ask me about climate grief, climate anxiety, I am not sure. I feel angry and unmoored that the best we are doing is leaving the most vulnerable behind. Our best is actually airing our very worst. (10/end)

Wild new research tool alert!🤯If you plug a research question into https://t.co/0Dmcw1vPaM, it uses AI to not only find relevant papers but pulls out ANSWERS from the papers. Adding to my list of things that would've changed the game at the start of my PhD #AcademicTwitter

Different “in-network” and “out-of-network” rates for the same services never made sense to me, and I still don’t really understand how my insurance works, and at this point my strategy is just hoping I don’t need any major medical care while I’m in the US 🤷🏽♀️
I just realized my non-US friends probably don't know how US insurance works. So lets say your employer offers insurance. They pay a portion and then you pay a portion. For a family, the employee pays on average about $400 per pay cycle, or $10,400 per year.
