And I will say it again, Sociology is one of the most important academic disciplines. It teaches you to be critical and to question everything. And that is why it is under attack. Solidarity to colleagues @SociologyGold

How can you transform an institution like Goldsmiths with devastating consequences for @SociologyGold and other vital departments if you show a lack of understanding of the vital values that have made it a creative inspiration with a global reputation?

The scale, cruelty and human devastation created by the cuts in @SociologyGold reflect an attack on the very values that have made Goldsmiths a creative and critical institution with a global reputation. Council has a moral responsibility to intervene - if not now, when?

It is devastating to hear that so many dear friends and colleagues are being made redundant in @SociologyGold with no justification. Are Phd students to loose their supervisors they have trusted relationships with? Who is going to teach the undergraduate courses? What vandalism?

I taught in sociology at Goldsmiths for over 40 years and it was always the heart of the college inspiring the formation of other departments - I feel as if the ground has given way and that if the college is to survive it will have to recreate it - what senseless destruction

My thoughts are with all my colleagues and friends @SociologyGold who have suffered such devastating news for nothing they have done but existing as a creative and global inspiration for 60 years. This is intellectual vandalism that will haunt the future.

If they can do that to Goldsmith Sociology, they can do it to any social science department in the country. If you're a social scientist and think that this doesn't affect you, you're wrong.

It’s heartbreaking news for everyone who has taught in Goldsmiths sociology and everyone who has learnt in one of the most creative and inspiring departments with such a strong global research reputation. A self-inflicted and thoughtless action with devastating consequences

I taught at Goldsmiths since 1971 and sociology was at the creative heart of a wonderful institution with a global reputation. Celebrating 30 years of CUCR showed what a wonderful future sociology has to play as part of any viable transformation that values its strengths

It’s bitter sweet to have received an honorary degree from Middlesex on the same weekend as my colleagues in Sociology at Goldsmiths are waiting to hear who will be made redundant. It is so easy to destroy and so hard to create and value - it’s heartbreaking to witness.

Why would you destroy a leading sociology department at Goldsmiths which has a global reputation and a 60 year history of creative research and teaching that is admired across the world? What for? It is never too late to learn from your mistakes.

Every student past and present in the U.K. and across the world should join the resistance to the destruction of Sociology at Goldsmiths and write in support of how much they learnt from the invaluable and creative teaching and learning. It is never too late to change direction.

It takes years to build a wonderful sociology department at Goldsmiths with a global reputation of high quality research and a creative and multicultural student community and so little time to undermine it. It is shameful & heartbreaking witnessing the thoughtless destruction.

Maya didn’t deserve to be targeted when she was murdered at the festival. Neither did Shaima deserve to die in Gaza. ‘That’s the common humanity that we all have to remember, because they’re trying to take it away from us.’ Rep. Rashida Tlaib

If we can’t express our horror at the murderous attacks on Israels and support them in their grief and it is only the deaths of ‘the colonised’ that can be valued where is our humanity how do we want to conduct ourselves as we struggle for a better world?
