Today is National Read a Book Day. I feel like every day going forward needs to be National Read a Book Day in the U.S. if there’s anything we could use more of in this country, it’s book reading.

A very important read. Though slim, it is packed with wisdom. @TimothyDSnyder’s words serve as a warning (which we did not heed) and an instruction manual (which we desperately need to follow).

Funniest "farewell" post I've seen on Twitter is one that simply wrote "CROATOAN". IFYKYK. I'm not deactivating but likely won't be very active here (not that I have been recently anyway). In any case, you can also find me here: https://t.co/82ZfXjRjcT

This was a fun interview with @billywitz. As is always the case, only a fraction showed up in the article, but that's OK – it got me thinking again about some important aspects of college football history.
@ProfGamecock in @nytimes: “Rivalries are at the heart of what college football is. Imagine a world without Harvard playing Yale. That said, the essence of college football is fading...” 🏈 https://t.co/uT8dFDZKIT

When I started learning German I tried @duolingo but soon grew frustrated with its constant barrage of gimmicks. It also had a weird obsession with teaching me how to say owl and elephant. Every once in a while I jump back on to try it and I’m reminded just how dumb this app is.

To add to the many examples @TomSugrue lists in his essay, let me add this one: Orangeburg 1968. Totally avoidable tragedy caused by an unnecessary militaristic response. There are great books about it but this doc has the voices of those who were there:

Shout it from the rooftops: "We are living through the most intense period of student protest since the 1960s, and college presidents seem intent on repeating the mistakes of their predecessors." I don't know how/why college presidents are handling this situation SO BADLY...!

Stopped by the @RussellHouseUU at @UofSC before the game. They have the ballroom set up for a big party. The exhibit my students created about Title IX is on display in the lobby where everyone was waits to get in. Can’t imagine how loud it must be in there now!
