Hat tip to our excellent PhD student Catherine Stowell for finding this and telling me this concept is called "polyptoton". I pretended that I knew that already, since I am a professor and obviously I know everything. But anyway you be the judge: https://t.co/TO88msEBEn

Anyway, the reason to mention this is to ask what you think of this opening sentence. Was this for a bet, do you think?

Do you guys ever do inside-jokes in your papers? This was one that I had to pull rank on, against the wishes of the entire rest of the authors, to get in. "What if one day we want to publish in the Lancet?" "Nah, never gonna happen. And anyway they don't read the BMJ."

Thank you to @GabashaMD for sponsoring this Prize Quiz. Click through to the poll for free CME points.
Thank you Burt and thank you Shayef! Placebo control is well understood to be the only intelligent way to study symptom relief. As for duration, how long does it take for the stent to inflate? And how long would YOU keep your family without a stent or anti-anginals?

And now the results of ORBITA 2. How long did it take for the stenting to reduce angina?

Wow! I had been assuming this was going to show weight loss -> lower BP & cholesterol etc -> Fewer events, and that would be a very gradually-evolving effect. This shape of a seemingly constant relative risk reduction throughout suggests an instant benefit of eating less!

So insulting to be led by such an unscrupulous liar. @Vish_Sharm, rather than us just getting angry -- since he has repeatedly lied, BMA could demand the lie be made true? That would fix it. Offer an alternative - apologise for the lie in all the same venues (and then resign).

A fascinating thread. Read it if you want to ruin you day and weekend.
Some #medtwitter may not be aware of why this case is being taken - I have been following this and let me explain why it matters and why @drmattuk needs your help to hold the @gmcuk to do their job in this exceptional case re @draseemmalhotra

I am happy to pay my GMC fee, but am surprised that it is being spent on opposing @drmattuk. During revalidation GMC seems to care A LOT what medical lectures we listened to. But does not care AT ALL if we use our medical credentials to spread harmful health messages. Thread:
I am astounded that @gmcuk is spending doctors' fees to defend my judicial review. A doctor that is spreading harmful COVID-19 misinformation should be well within the remit of a regulator, and yet it not only declines to investigate but will defend such action in court. 🧵

@ihenriksen @skdh Actually it IS how science works. It IS a popularity contest. The difference between this and general popularity contests is that it is popularity of an idea *amongst people with a track record for good analytical skills*.
