Love this news from the end of last year: the first commercial tree nursery in a UK prison has opened - Forests with Impact at HMP Haverigg. Growing 250,000 saplings, the social enterprise supports people to gain horticultural qualifications 🌳.

HMP Highpoint's rail training programme has been recognised as a Centre of Excellence. Facilitated by @cityandguilds, the programme recruits suitable learners from other prisons, who then return to their original prison to work locally once released.

Though the key issue will be how these new contracts work with the new education providers when their contracts are finalised. The 11 regional lots and contractors for CIAG services are: (3/5).

The previous arrangement of procuring CIAG services via the Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS) wasn’t working: short term contracts for individual prisons meant that there wasn't really enough time or money available to deliver services properly. (2/5).
