Scientists are saying the future is going to be far more futuristic than they originally predicted. Some call me The Wistful Reviewer

I want to start a podcast that goes through every episode of the 2002 revival of The Twilight Zone. In this clip alone; you have host Forest Whitaker, a Seinfeld cast member guest starring, and a Jonathan Davis of Korn composed intro. Anyone looking to co-host?

I would be a lot more interested in Quentin Tarantino returning to acting if he played Jay Kelly’s brother.

Critical support to the legend Van Sant. Can’t wait to see this.
The first poster for Gus Van Sant's 'Dead Man's Wire,' opening in theaters on Jan. 9, following a Dec. 12 qualifying run. Read our review: https://t.co/xoKxeqQrf7

Mia Goth in Del Toro’s Frankenstein is a real “we used to pick apples in papa’s orchard” performance. No, I will not explain.

Memories. Back when we had these film festivals, we were limited to what we could find on film! Typically, at least once one of the reels would break and we’d have to pause while the film was spliced back together.

The worst part about living in Ontario is there are no Waffle Houses. You can never truly go home.

I don’t care if I’m alone on this island, but I think Bigelow is in the pocket with House of Dynamite.

Lots of film fans talk about wanting to support truly independent movies. But will they actually pay up? Find out on Friday!!!

I like this movie a lot more than Zero Dark Thirty. Does a much better job not coming across as state propaganda for the military and, instead, commenting upon how ill-equipped the nation has been for almost a decade. People are sleeping on this one. There’s a lot to appreciate.

There’s this approach of anonymity this film leans into. We don’t know who launched the missile. We don’t see the impact. Instead, we sit with the paranoia leading up to the moment. I love this idea, I just wish it leaned into this a bit more. The film kind of gives up.

Tracy Letts, Rebecca Ferguson, Anthony Ramos, Idris Elba, Greta Lee, Jared Harris and Gabriel Basso have vastly different approaches to Bigelow’s mission yet they all feel of a piece with one another. It’s a stacked deck that deals the right damage necessary.

This isn’t as Sorkin-y neoliberal as I thought it was going to be. A lot of time and attention is given to how people aren’t just their ideas but also their immediate environment, oftentimes distracted or without guidance. Several thrilling performances here.

The whole repeating the same chunk of time 3 times from different perspectives in theory works. What’s interesting is that Bigelow doesn’t use this device to change the audience’s perspective, but to show how the reaction is universal. I wish it was all parallel edited together.

Initial House of Dynamite Thoughts: Kathryn Bigelow rounds out her modern military trilogy with a dower disaster film focused on how spread thin and tired America is. Foundational issues hold this film back from greatness, but what’s here is pretty damn good.

I used to see Jason Clarke and say, “who cares?” Now, I see Jason Clarke, and I feel safe.
