Forget-me-nots change colour after being visited by a pollinator, signalling to the next insect that they’ve already been emptied. It’s a clever way of saving the bee some time and spreading the pollen more efficiently!. #PollinatingLT

Some flowers, like from the coffee plant, use caffeine to attract bees, helping them remember the flower and come back for more. But in high doses certain natural compounds like caffeine or nicotine can actually deter or harm them. Nature’s balance is a fine one. #PollinatingLT

Pollinators don’t see flowers the way we do. Bees love blue, purple and violet patterns that guide them to nectar. Your garden could be a treasure map in bee vision!. #PollinatingLT

Different flowers suit different pollinators. From long-tongued bumblebees to tiny hoverflies, body shape affects what nectar they.can reach, and that means plant diversity matters for pollinator diversity!. #PollinatingLT

A garden that flowers across the seasons is better for pollinators than one that blooms all at once. 💐. Different pollinators are active at different times of year, and they all need food when they’re on the wing. #PollinatingLT

Of around 250 bee species in the UK, many solitary bees nest in the ground. But in central London, 93% of the non-honeybees we found were cavity nesters like the red mason bee (Osmia bicornis)!. #PollinatingLT #pollinators #bees

Butterflies go through 4 life stages: egg, caterpillar, pupa and adult. In contrast, insects like grasshoppers skip the pupa stage and grow through several ‘mini adult’ nymph phases. Complete metamorphosis can reduce competition between adults and their young. #PollinatingLT
