Also love that he wants permeable pavers to help satisfy soft landscaping req. for suburban multiplexes to help with providing parking (which is still a big consideration).

Councillor Myers in Ward 23 continues to impress on housing. He was the first to want 6plexes in his ward, and now he has a motion to help make them more viable by ensuring they get a DC reduction the same as 4plexes. Big cost savings.

Also, it is notable that the city released zero pre-approved 2-storey garden suite designs. They only released one for a 2 storey laneway suite. and even then, didn’t even show the permitted 0m side yard setback.

Specifically, the zoning changes passed today at PHC say you have to have sloped side roofs or increased side yard setbacks. These have the same effect of angular planes, just by a different name. Malicious compliance wins again.

lol Provincial regulation says no angular planes allowed for garden suites or laneway suites. So Toronto deleted the requirement (as they are required to do) and replaced it with new zoning that would do the same thing as angular planes.

Toronto is basically the same (and it’s not rare or unique like this). Providing housing for people is basically a giant make work project for consultants.
In 1937, London built 80,000 homes. Last year, it built less than half that. To find out why, I looked at two different planning applications for a four-storey block of flats from now and back then. 1937: 3 pages long. 2025: 1,250 pages long.
