#nzpol is this the most short-lived major #highered reform ever? The new government wants to disestablish Te Pūkenga, which only recently merged all 16 ITPs & workplace training providers.

My co-authors were @AilsaLamont & @EvelienRenders The book consists of 11 chapters discussing digital internationalisation through different lenses.

Our chapter "Digital Approaches to Sustainability" is part of the new book 'Digital Internationalization in Higher EducationBeyond Virtual Exchange'. We explore digital alternatives for international student mobility, #intled operations & marketing, and agent engagement.

There are so many news articles highlighting how the cost of living crisis has affected students, but no action by the previous government & it appears unlikely that the new government wants to invest in the wellbeing of young people?

What we really need is to provide better (higher rates & less targeted) student allowances (& loans) that allow students to focus on their studies. The level of these has been completely insufficient in NZ for a long time. Our 2018 paper: .@studentsnz.

Our new NZ government is going to replace the first year Fees Free with a final year Fees Free. Why? If the aim is still to reduce access barriers, then the 1s year makes more sense. But actually, this whole policy is not the best way to address #highered barriers in NZ. #nzpol.

We know what has happened to many APC OA journals. I'm afraid it might end up being quantity over quality? If so, what's the future reputation of this journal? Worth considering.

I also find the new withdrawal fee & policy highly problematic. You'll need to pay a retract fee of £500 or "your paper will be deposited in a repository, which means that you will not be able to publish it anywhere in any other journal".

The APC is £2500. The website says that authors pay one time APC "to cover the cost of peer review administration and management, professional production of articles in PDF and other formats" - Is the journal going to start paying reviewers & editors? I don't think so.

I have resigned from my role as an Associate Editor of Journal of International Students. It was a pleasure to contribute to JIS under the leadership of @crglass & other wonderful colleagues, including @stephaniekkim. My reason for volunteering was the OA & no APC model of JIS.
