Have you ever wondered what a sperm #whale (Physeter macrocephalus) #embryo looks like - here it is. Next to it there is the #tooth of an adult which is double the size of the 8 cm embryo. #Unbelievable when you consider this #animal can reach up to 20 metres!

#PINNED, a short series of few #insects I did for a upcoming special exhibition. The #Ectemnius (2) and #Sirex (4) are more than 140y old, carefully rehydrated and brought in position - to fit on spot in the exhibition. Lost legs and Antenna were faked from fine roots. 1/2

Working on a new special #exhibition. Beautiful #nest from the #European #hornet, which has lost its "shell", triggers this #StarWars scene in my head... 🙃 I love how the different levels are attached to each other!

A little sorting and cataloging the well preserved specimen from Arthur Weiß (1871-1940) on #FossilFriday. His collection of "#Conchylia" is amazing in numbers, determination and metadata available. He used color codes to mark different collections sites in #Thueringen.

We feel deeply touched and honored that we are allowed to take part in the handing over of the iwi kupana with @oha_hawaii! A matter truly dear to our hearts.

Surprising catch in our #collection as this sea robin got stored in a #masons improved #butter #jar May 10 1870. First thought something wrong with the fluid, but it's the jars slight blue/green color. Can't complain about leaking fluid here - #quality product.

Out today (officially!) in J. Morphol.: Head anatomy and evolution of the sausagefly and the driver ant (Dorylus helvolus). We used X-ray µ-CT to document the near-total head anatomy of the male, which we compared to the queens and workers. 1/10 https://t.co/ZYDZhnX5GL
