CCAP 678/3 Spirogyra varians We shipped this strain yesterday and it looks so lovely on agar with its swirly growth. Originally collected in Cambridge in 1947, this is one of our older strains (though a youngster compared to CCAP 211/11B Chlorella vulgaris- collected in 1890!)

Just finished the first day of testing students for coronavirus! Was lovely to be a comforting face to safely help them undertake their tests before processing the sample. Well done to the team for providing a vital service to allow students and staff to return home safely.

"They have a harvester that separates the algae from the water and returns the water in a non-algae state. That algae is then further solidified and trucked away to be used as fertilizer, to make foam products such as sneakers."
