Happy to share the preprint of our latest study on 2H and 18O fractionation, showing the close connection between leaf sugar d2H and the leaf level carbon dynamics. It has improved since it was part of my PhD thesis 😁 I hope you will enjoy reading it! https://t.co/vJckhCEjwo

Accurate predictions of vegetation responses to global warming require a precise understanding of physiological temperature responses. We investigated the effects of air temperature (10°C to 40°C)...

I really love to collect seeds of rare and/or species that are often not included in studies, so I can grow them by myself and use them in my future Experiments #plantscience #botany #plantphysiology #oaks #quercus

Look at these amazing Quercus infectoria subsp. veneris with huge acorns. Closely related to Quercus pubescens and the other roburoids. Likely having important genes for introgressive adaptation of robur and petreae in Central and Western Europe

Academics from poorer socio-economic backgrounds are more likely to - not publish - have outstanding publication records - introduce more novel scientific concepts - less likely to receive recognition, as measured by citations, Nobel Prize nominations, and awards.

While the dutch office failed completely, Obi Switzerland removed and destroyed all remaining plants of the infected batch. At least someone reacted in a responsible way. #myrtlerust #newdisease #plantpathogens

Despite being in charge to protect from the potentially highly damaging effect of a dispersal of the pathogen in southern Europe (Myrtus communis, Eucalyptus, etc.), they just replied in a completely plump and rather useless way. At least we know who will be responsible (2/3)

Very bad news for Myrtaceae in Europe: we detected the highly damaging myrtle rust on indoor bonsai, sold in Obi Switzerland. The dutch authorities, responsible for the phytosanitary certificates, however they replied in an incredible bad way (1/3).

I finally managed to find Quercus alnifolia, the endemic oak species of Cyprus. Amazing how similar it is to Quercus chrysolepis from California - oaks are the master of convergent evolution and evolve the same traits over and over again! #botany #quercus #plantscience

‼️It seems the Russian economy is headed towards a collapse in 2025. And Putin knows this. While the Kremlin likes to pretend that their bloody war economy is doing better than ever, this is far from the truth. In attempts to stop runaway inflation due to increased defense

The Taliban have now BANNED women from hearing each other’s voices in public or private settings. This is nothing short of vile, inhumane barbarity. It’s not just oppression—it’s a ruthless assault on Afghan women’s very existence. https://t.co/e0rq5ekw8K

The Taliban has intensified its repressive policies, banning women from hearing each other's voices in public or private settings, alongside broader censorship of media and literature.

Southernmost population of Quercus pubescens s.l. on Crete, which might be another subspecies or species, but genetic analysis have not been done yet as much as I know. Looking forward how they are different from more northern ones, such as the ones from Pfynwald in Switzerland
