In June, Land-Surface Temperature (LST) instruments were installed at the Abisko-Stordalen station as part of the #NUBICOS project🌡️. An essential climate variable, LST measurements are key for calibrating and validation remote sensing data. Read more

A study, using ICOS data and published earlier this year in Nature, found that a third (34 %) of the Arctic-boreal zone is now a source of carbon to the atmosphere. When emissions from fire were added, the percentage grew to 40%. Read more:

Geike De Sloover uses terrestrial laser scanning at ICOS Ecosystem sites to measure forest biomass 🌲🌳. By scanning forests rather than cutting and weighing trees, this opens the potential for long-term time series of forest biomass. Read more:

🌲A new study from @UniFreiburg shows recurring years of heat and drought since 2018 have caused long-term damage to a pine forest in southwestern Germany. The longitudinal observational study was conducted at ICOS Ecosystem station Hartheim. Read more:
