FWIW: I prefer cartridge for work, because I can throw a bunch of cartridges in my backpack, and always have one when I need one. For home, I prefer piston fill, or vacuum fill. I have a huge preference for piston fill overall.

I don’t notice any difference in quality, or the feel of the nib. A cartridge is just a more convenient ink supply when I am away from home.
One of my smartest purchases has been to buy fountain pens on closeout when models have been discontinued.
