I’m delighted and stunned to have won the Final of the District 71 Humorous Speech Contest. With nearly 9,000 members across the UK and Ireland, just reaching the final felt like an achievement. The other speakers were brilliant, so to be named the winner is an incredible honour.

Scientists have released an artificial intelligence model for biology trained on 128,000 genomes spanning the tree of life. It can make sense of existing DNA and also write whole chromosomes and small genomes from scratch. We science because we can.
