Ottawa and Edmonton don't always see eye to eye. But geothermal power can create common ground. Geothermal uses O&G expertise to make clean power and can help Canada become a conventional & clean energy superpower. My latest in the @globeandmail .

The EV transition is inevitable. But as headwinds emerge - a more important transportation revolution has started:. In-car karaoke. It's a sliver of a silver lining, but I'm Mr. Brightside.

Baseload power - like gas, nuclear, and hydro - is getting more expensive. Baseload provides tremendous value to grids. But as costs rise we need to seriously consider new sources - like geothermal power - to capture that value.

Wind and solar are keystone technologies - but competing with China on production is a fool's errand. Low margins and massive scale. Instead, Canada can lead on geothermal power - where we can build a competitive advantage on our world-class oil and gas expertise.

AOSTRA's Underground Test Facility catalyzed the in situ oil sands sector. The impact was transformative for Alberta and Canada - one of the best examples of Canadian industrial policy. But maybe more importantly, AOSTRA made some sweet hats, and at least one still exists.

These innovations have the potential to stack - with cascading impacts on the costs and capabilities - making geothermal power incredibly valuable to the grid.

Geothermal is made up of many converging technologies - including exploration, drilling, reservoir creation, and power generation. We're seeing advances in all of these driven by diverse firms like @fervoenergy, @Eavor , and @QuaiseEnergy - just to name a *few*.

Finally: exciting things happen with converging technologies - where there are synergies between multiple technologies that are still rapidly improving. This is happened with wind and solar - and it's why I'm so optimistic on next-gen geothermal power.

We are *really* bad at seeing change coming - or just *really* don't want to. Whether it's IEA projections of global oil demand, or AEO projections of US coal demand - the trend in the trend delivers a powerful signal of the direction and pace of change.

I've also wondered why cars are getting so big and heavy - maybe you have to. But at least in my view, the 'sailing ship' effect might explain this as a way for them to create new market segments that are harder for EVs to compete with (at least for now).

Great report looking at how and why technologies can upend our world - for the better. Maybe the most important message: costs matter, but performance does too - especially when new technologies can deliver multiple value streams. Quick thread on other key insights.
