Over 60% of US consumer products are imported from China. Most of this has no substitute. U can raise tariffs to 1000% all you want, all u r doing is importing inflation. China's export to the US accounts for under 3% of GDP. Hardly "dependent". Stop drinking the kool aid.

That's an Anglo Saxon view borne out of a Wall Street culture that has killed manufacturing in the USA & the UK, where the financial sector suck out top talents that should go into manufacturing, thus deindustrialising human capital. It's a disease. Msia suffer from it.
Funny how quickly people forget that Germany escaped the last financial crisis largely unscathed because of their focus on manufacturing instead of “creative finance” a la Wall Street and that’s precisely what China is emulating. Who’s dragging who actually?

Gopeng is "务边”. Not sure there is meaning as many place names were adopted phonetically & hv no meaning. Individually, the word "务” means "work", "mission", while "边” means ”border", "side". Reversing the 2 words did hv historical usage. "边务” - mission at the border.
