“The childish, fanatical partisanship of beer drinkers, their pretence to omniscient knowledge of the beverage and their unmovable confidence in their judgement of its varieties - all these, as an old committeeman, I have seen.” From an article on brewing written in 1919.

This week in @thetimes I'm celebrating strong beers that should not be drunk by the pint. Unless you're Adrian Tierney-Jones. And I finally get revenge on @PivovarUK's Jamie Hawksworth. (Paywall)

Reasonably pleased with the outcome of last night’s North American Guild of Beer Writers Awards - three second place awards and one third place. Best thing was Tasting Notes being runner-up for best book, pipped by @JonnyGarrett's excellent The Meaning of Beer!

Really interesting. I hardly come onto this cesspit any more. But I was on a train and accessed via the app, and the “For you” feed was 95% racist, far right bile. Now, accessing the dame feed via a web browser on my laptop, there are people I actually follow popping up here.

This week in @thetimes, after an exhausting week there in early September, it’s my best Lake District pubs! Online only this week I think. Many locals disagree with my choices. Do you? (Paywall)

House of Guinness on Netflix. Fuck me. They should think about entering that into Best Audio or Video Beer Communication, sponsored by Fuller, Smith & Turner, at next year’s Guild of Beer Writers Awards. Would easily get highly commended.

People who fly more often than me - how long has @VirginAtlantic had the shittest website and worst customer service of any organisation in the entire world? And does anyone know of a secret way of contacting them that actully works, short of getting the train the the airport?

Help David push! David Holliday of Norfolk’s @moongazerale is saving lives. He’s doing 7 ultra-marathons in 7 days, and making it more interesting by pushing a 75kg beer barrel the whole way, in aid of testicular cancer. Please help this beery legend.

Today is #HobbitDay because both Bilbo and Frodo Baggins were born on September 22nd. Normally we'd shire a hobbit pun or two but it might just feel like a tolkien gesture and we don't want to embarrass our elves. Anyway come and boromir #Tolkien books.
