Wonderful to hear of pattens newly emerging from the river. For anyone interested we have a display of pattens in our church St Margaret Patten on Eastcheap #city #London #footwear #history.
18th century shoe pattens, found on the foreshore a few years apart. Wear on the back shows one was worn on a right foot, while the other is left footed. The one I found just before Christmas has now been slow baked in the oven to dry it out and soaked in WD40 oil
