Half of Ottawa residents are within a 15 minute walk of the nearest supermarket. As Ottawa adopts a 15 minute neighbourhood lens for future devs, council should permit smaller grocery stores where people already live, and increased density where supermarkets already exist

@_MarkSutcliffe I went through 13-years of City of Ottawa budgets to compare what the city had budgeted each year for 'Payment-in-lieu of taxation' and what was actually collected. Over that period $45-million more was collected than what was budgeted for - $40-million of that just last year.

@_MarkSutcliffe There has never been a deal for each level of government to pay one third each. You're making that up. The other levels of government have only ever promised flat amounts. They're not responsible for the city's poorly written P3 agreements and cost overruns.

It's so frustrating that people saw the shortfall in @_MarkSutcliffe's budget almost two years ago, and yet he's done nothing to course correct. Raise the transit levy

Every resident needs to understand this chart when it comes expectations of municipal services.
What the replies to this are telling me is the average Canadian doesn't have an inkling of how expensive low density sprawl is. Evidently, this diagram needs to be attached to every voting ballot in every election.

Submitted my first Freedom of Information request about Ottawa's HAF application. It appears the city resisted adopting 4 units x lot but was ultimately forced to (thankfully). I'm not entirely confident that city has the desire to move quickly on this.

If a person is hit by a vehicle traveling 50 km/h, their chance of survival is about 20%. Most of the streets in Ottawa have speed *limits* around 50 km/h and are actually *designed* (straighter, wider) for greater speeds

🚨 Housing alert! 🚨 After 3 months of dealing with Canadian bureaucracy Just got my hands on an ATIP dump of letters from @SeanFraserMP to municipalities across Canada, urging housing reform. A must read for all YIMBYS 🏠 #HousingReform #CDNPoli #YIMBY

Somebody steal this man's ideas
Today I introduced a bill that will drive real progress towards solving the housing crisis. The Homes You Can Afford In Communities You Love Act. It will legalize housing by allowing 4 storey buildings and fourplexes to be built as of right. #onpoli

Regardless if you prefer travel by car, bus, bike or by foot, there is no denying that roads are EXTREMELY $$$ to build, and by extension, maintain. Case in point, 1500 meters of new road in Stittsville is costing tax payers... 🥁 ... $26,000,000!
$13,395,000 in @ottawacity #OttBudget 2024 to build a 1.5km section of Robert Grant Avenue, a new suburban Arterial Road in Stittsville. But that's just for 2024. There was another $12,540,000 spent on this project in the 2023 budget, putting the total at $25,935,000!

🚨 breaking news🚨 Ottawa must have solved the housing affordability and transit crisis! Reports of @_MarkSutcliffe knocking door to door in the Glebe asking residents if they agree with his vision for land that he has no control over. I'm so tired of this.
I believe in a balanced approach to Queen Elizabeth Driveway that leaves room for everyone: drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. Do you agree? Have your say here: https://t.co/HDndDESYyt Je crois en une approche équilibrée de la promenade Reine-Élizabeth qui laisse de la place à

Great to see this type of support of affordable housing, environmental and fiscal stewardship from an Ottawa city councilor. A suburban councilor no less! Thank you David.
We need to take active measures to regain some semblance of affordability in Ottawa. This includes but is not limited to the elimination of exclusionary zoning. We need to be bold and innovative. This will be my focus for the Zoning By-law Working Group https://t.co/80DekO4Kwf

Please please please tell me that you told the @ottawacity that their HAF application stunk Our application can't be that we're promising to review progressive housing and zoning policies over the next 3 years If we want the 💰 we have to do what we know needs to be done, now
We're working with the City of Ottawa to help get the homes folks need at prices they can afford. Thank you @_MarkSutcliffe for meeting earlier this morning. Together we can deliver on what really matters to the people that call Ottawa home.
