A new angle for PJI research. The gut microbiome and its role on pathogens retrieved in PJI.
This has been my work for the past three. Science is only great when it generate discussion. I hope many friends and colleagues will explore this area further. Together, we can one day do something more for patients with PJIs.

This is a terrible truth, even worth than expected. We should continue to do our best to provide better care to our patients.
PJI 10-year mortality. This pivotal study published on @Clinorthop suggest a 45% 10-year mortality rate after a diagnosis of PJI in a THA patient. 20 years ago most surgeons would claim zero infection, today we should start a common path to better care for our patients

It is always a balance between costs and benefits. Our patients deserve the best, but always after a proven superiority.
In this recent study, my coauthors and I report on how Alpha-Defensin was not pivotal in diagnosing PJI when markers like Leukocyte esterase were available. @ParviziJavad @RothmanOrtho @ResearchAtJeff.
