I used to get in trouble in grade school for reading books in my lap while the teacher droned on. .
i'm in 6th grade, advanced english. we're given a new book, it's maybe 200 pages in size 16 font. i read it in the first hour of the two hour class. i hide my own book behind it, and go back to reading. the teacher's mad, she calls on me.

CAN-OPENER STRAIGHT OUT OF 1986.
I remember we used to do all these weird jumps into the pool when we were kids. The goal was to make the biggest splash. There were all sorts of jumps other than cannonball. One where you held one knee up, I think. I can't remember any of the names.

One striking observation here in Budapest:. The middle class still appears to strive to imitate the manners of the 20th century upper class -- eg gentlemanly manners and gifts etc etc . I don't think that is the case for most of the USA. cc @erikdamato.
