Overall Thoughts: . There will be better classes, but there were also worse ones. Guys like Hamler, YGM, and to some extent Brown were clear superstars. Multi year starters and/or solid contributors were scattered throughout like Clifford, TCF, Sutherland, Wade, Brooks and.

Biggest Recruiting Miss: OL Andrew Steuber . You were expecting D’Andre Swift here I’d bet. I went in a different direction for 2 reasons. 1. Swift was always going south and I don’t think there’s anything PSU could’ve done differently. 2. The RB they ended up signing was.

Class Disappointment: OL CJ Thorpe. Thorpe was a highly rated OL out of high school, ranked #89 overall and #4 in Pennsylvania. He flipped between OL and DL as various points, mostly playing the role of a rotational player/spot starter. He stopped playing football after 2020.

Play of the Class: Sean Clifford clinches the Rose Bowl . A roller coaster career, Clifford ended it on the highest of highs, playing the best game of his career in a Rose Bowl win against Utah. He sealed it with this 88 yard TD bomb.

Best NFL Career (to date): Yetur Gross-Matos. Currently playing for the 49ers, YGM has a total of 161 tackles, 17 sacks, and 25 TFL’s in 5 seasons. He started a couple years for the Panthers before becoming more of a rotational DL for the 49ers.

Highest Drafted: DE Yetur Gross-Matos. It was close, but YGM just beat out KJ Hamler in who got drafted first. Gross-Matos was the 38th overall pick in the 2nd round of the 2020 draft, while Hamler was the 46th overall pick in the same draft.

Highest Rated: DB Lamont Wade . Wade came to PSU as a blue chip prospect, #43 overall in his class. While he was never a superstar, he was a multi-year starter. 47 games over 4 years with 153 tackles, 7 TFL’s, 3 sacks, an INT, and this kick return TD.

Most Underrated: RB Journey Brown. Brown was ranked #915 overall in his class. He really started to come on in the 2nd half of 2019, with the Cotton Bowl being his true arrival. He was gonna have a big 2020 season before being forced to medically retire.

Best Offensive Player: WR KJ Hamler . KJ was a lightning bolt on offense. As shifty as he was fast, he was a dynamic playmaking threat. After redshirting his first year due to a HS injury, he totaled 98 catches for 1658 yards and 13 TD’s over 2 seasons.

Class MVP: QB Sean Clifford . Ok hear me out. Was he the best player? No. Was it perfect? FAR from it. But 4 year starter, 2 11 win seasons, 2 NY6 bowl wins, and PSU’s all-time passing yards leader, it’s hard to deny Clifford left a mark on this program.
