@POAnatchair Or they could just put the pay up so they don't need an exemption and then everyone gets a decent pay rise.......

Our members should rightly be proud of the union they are part of. We are the only ones fighting for them and making a difference to their working lives. A massive relief for thousands of our colleagues. All the best everyone ! @POAUnion

Couldn’t agree more! Those who contribute should not be targeted and penalised for their hard work .

Excellent work from @POAUnion winning an exemption to skilled workers visa changes - but now the Home Office Ministers need to apply the same logic to eg. @RMTunion members on London Transport, and @pcs_union members in the DWP etc who are faced with deportation

Another massive victory for @POAUnion Today, the Government gave an exemption for our overseas recruits.   An agreed temporary exemption to recent changes to the Immigration Rules means that the department can sponsor prison officers in public prisons for Skilled Worker visas

EXC - hundreds of foreign prison staff who faced deportation and the sack have been offered an emergency extension to their visa in order to stop the prison system collapsing. Changes to visa rules had meant thousands of staff, many from West Africa, had faced deportation.

Today and tomorrow @hmpps are in court defending their decision to roll out PAVA in the YCS estate. Without this protection in place there will be a fatality . Staff have the right to be safe at work and age is no excuse for violent behaviour. Shame on those who challenge this.

The Howard league and Prison Reform trust want any form of protection for Prison Officers removed. They think we should accept this level of threat and violence at work. If we didn’t have PAVA there would have been a fatality already .⁦@POAUnion

According to our employer and their people survey pay is no longer one of the main ‘drivers’ for staff leaving the service. The ⁦@POAUnion⁩ survey says otherwise. The truth is out there .

There has to be a will from our employer to make this happen . But because the people survey refuses to ask these types of questions or give frontline staff their own survey , it’s the ⁦@POAUnion⁩ who continue to get the truth.

Still no protections for staff working with female prisoners despite the highest rise in violence in that estate , and no PAVA in the open estate during the core day despite increased risks. All private sector prisons need to issue this ⁦@POAUnion

Poor wages , unrealistic retirement age of 68, the most violent workplace of anywhere in the world , weak management , unfit for purpose training , no support when you deal with murders, abuse, threats, assaults , self harm and suicide. Is anyone surprised? @POAUnion

NEW Alarming figures from @MoJGovUK : The number of prison officers has fallen by more than 1,000 over the past 12 months.. This despite chronic overcrowding in jails, high reoffending rates & concerns around safety & drugs. Operational support staff numbers also down, by 200

The employer will say they have this they have that but in reality they rely on peer support. We want professionals on site in every prison so staff can offload and get help after a traumatic incident or the onset of mental health issues ⁦@POAUnion

It’s a pity Governors always insist there are enough staff to facilitate pointless unlock periods where prisoners aimlessly play ping pong and pool while bullying each other and assaulting staff . ⁦@POAUnion
