Tyrese Maxey:
“We cannot take this for granted. Not just as teammates, not as an organization, but as fans, even if you’re not a fan of Philadelphia. You’re just a fan of basketball. Can’t take Jo for granted, man. What he’s doing right now is special.”
Marcus Morris on the joys of playing at home:
“I’ve been playing in Sonny Hill league and things like that since I was a child. Coming to the Sixers games when they had AI, going down to Friday’s seeing him. Just that and being able to go to the Eagles games. That shit is…
Kelly Oubre is excited for the opportunity to play at Madison Square Garden, praising the fans’ appreciation of basketball culture.
Also:
“They’re going to give celebrities those $100,000 free tickets just to be there and not care about the game”
Embiid was asked about criticism he’s received for missing games vs. tougher comp this year.
“One of the main things I say is as soon as you use the name Joel Embiid, that’s going to get you a lot of likes. And that’s going to get you a lot of money. As long as my name has a…
Embiid on Philadelphia’s offensive changes: “The biggest difference? I love it and we all love it. This is the best way to win and I’ve always believed that. I never liked the idea of just being a scorer.”
Danuel House Jr. on the coaching style change: “It’s a lot more selfless basketball. It’s not so much of two guys having the ball. Doc is two guys ball dominant, Nick Nurse is everybody play together, everybody work for each other”
Tyrese Maxey came in while he was sick last week to deliver a message to some of his teammates.
“Joel’s going to be out for however long Joel’s out for. This is time for y’all to go out there and now just showcase what y’all can do for this team and for yourselves, but really
Kelly Oubre Jr, on his heated exchange with the refs after the game.
"I want to apologize for just losing my cool, because that's something I try to work on each and every day, and try to represent God in the best way I possibly can, and that wasn't it. I just ask for…
Nick Nurse said Tyrese Maxey, who had a 20 point first half tonight, came in and told him he wanted/needed to be more aggressive to open tonight’s game.
Nurse: “Shit, I only tell you that every day”
Embiid on Harden: “I’m happy that the situation got resolved and I’m happy for him, it’s all business…I hope he has a chance to succeed and make a lot of money, play good basketball and be able to win. I hope we both make the Finals but he’s on the losing side of it.”
Tobias Harris on how his convo with Joel Embiid this week helped spark tonight’s performance.
“Joel has a very intelligent basketball mind and how he sees the game and what he sees. He’s been with me here the longest out of anybody…at the end of it he just said, you had a…
Nick Nurse says Tyrese Maxey’s early foul on Alex Caruso was (in part) a message to the officials.
“He told the ref he said, that’s what they do to me. So I’m going to start this game doing it to them. He came in there with that mindset.”
Kelly Oubre, on his biggest adjustment since coming to the Sixers, and on learning to cut off of Joel Embiid: "He needs outlets. He needs people that he can get assists from, and I'm here. I'm here to help him and relieve some pressure off of him."
After likening Tyrese Maxey to “Speedy Gonzalez,” Kelly Oubre says that Maxey’s spirit is something he’s thrilled to have in a teammate.
“I’m just really happy to be with such a lighthearted individual, man, who just has fun. I need that in my life, lord knows”
Kelly Oubre: “we all knew that Memphis is missing a lot of guys, and so are we, and it was a real testament of like, hard work beats talent if talent don’t work hard. I just think that was the whole gist of the game tonight”
Adds that he feels they let “the whole city down”
Nic Batum’s basketball philosophy in a nutshell — pointing at the box score and saying he doesn’t care about it, Batum says he’ll take the grief from his son if it means winning.
“You only scored two points? Sorry kid, I’m trying”
Embiid: “For really, two months, I was not at 100 percent. I was not even close to it. And I just felt the need to give it my all to the team, and just wanted to win because I know I can add that to this basketball team”
Here is Sixers head coach Nick Nurse explaining how he tried to call a timeout with the Sixers up 101-99 with 16 seconds left.
"I called timeout, the referee looked right at me, ignored me. It went into Tyrese, I called timeout again, then the melee started."
The Knicks stole
Joel Embiid says the 65 game threshold for awards will not have any impact on health decisions this season, the goal is all about the playoffs.
“No. I’ve already done it…one thing we’re not going to do is push for it to try to make the requirement”
Nicolas Batum thinks the Sixers can find success offensively without Joel Embiid, but they need to move the ball more.
"We can't rely on Tyrese to get 50 every freaking time. That won't happen...[We got to] find a way to move the ball, change sides, not be a one pass shot…
Embiid: “I want to be on the floor as much as possible. I only have about 20 years to do this, so any chances that I get, I want to be on the floor. Doesn’t matter where we are — 4, 5, 3, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 — just want to play as much as we can and try to help us.”
Do you think is something that can be repaired?
Harden: “No.”
Why?
Harden: “This is not even about in this situation, this is in life. When you lose trust in someone, it’s like a marriage. You lose trust in someone, you know what I mean? It’s pretty simple.”
Kyle Lowry on Patrick Beverley’s recent comments: “I love Pat. I think Pat is the ultimate competitor…his podcast is great, and I’m not a podcast watcher”

Joel Embiid, with an extended answer on the opportunity for a “measuring stick” game against Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets tonight.
“Who doesn’t want to play against the best?…it’s fun to play against the best. You kind of measure yourself and see where you are.”
Nick Nurse diving a little deeper into the closing lineup from the other night, which did not feature Tobias Harris. His explanation for that choice, plus he says they’ll likely be choosing between “6 or 7 guys” to finish out games:
Kelly Oubre Jr, on his shoulder injury:
"I’m banged up, I ain’t gonna lie to you…I haven’t been able to make a shot in probably two months. But I just saw a chiropractor, and he just snapped, crackled and popped every single bone in my body, and I feel a little better."
AI gave a heartfelt answer when asked when he realized it was time to hang it up.
"There was a time my daughter was suffering from Kawasaki Disease...and somebody was shooting a free-throw, and I was sitting there thinking about my daughter, and I knew it was over then."
Nick Nurse asked for his thoughts on the Sixers’ colorful In-Season Tournament court:
“If we win, it’s going to be a great court. If we don’t, not so good”
Maxey says Lowry’s communication and leadership were on display tonight: “It was times when I was trying to run a different play and he was like, no we’re running this play, you’re going to be right here with the ball and you’re going to do this. And I’m like alright, cool.”
Nick Nurse on Kyle Lowry: “Nobody competes like that guy. I haven’t had anybody in my coaching career that competes like that guy. That’s the highest compliment I can give him.”
Tyrese Maxey described getting ready to play through his illness. "I took medicine, IV, I did everything they asked me to do. I wasn't missing the game".
Maxey said he started filling sick after Game 1, but it really hit him last night. "Last night around 8, I just, I couldn't…
Nick Nurse came away a big fan of the In-Season Tournament. However….
“I’m blaming [our performance] totally on our floor. Look for a different floor here next year, different color or a different look”
😂😂😂
Maxey says there’s “no comparison” between where he’s at now during Harden’s standoff vs. taking a bigger role during the Simmons ordeal
“My confidence is really high. Mentally, I’ve prepared for whatever it is…confidence is a real thing, I use my voice a lot in practice now”
Where are all the media outlets, tv media personalities, hot takes that talked so much 💩 about Joel Embiid about missing those games when he knew what he was dealing with.

Nick Nurse gave a 👍🏻 on Harden’s conditioning, and he doesn’t think there needs to be a formal acknowledgment of the situation.
“He’s here, he knows the schedule, and we expect him to be here now.”
Nick Nurse on the challenges (and the team’s approach) to guarding Jokic.
“If he’s bringing the ball up the floor just walking it up casually, at his own pace, that’s not what we want. We want to guard him. We want to make him work for his elbow catches, we want to make him…
Joel Embiid on Harden: “I didn’t know if anything was going on because he’s been here. He wasn’t here today, so obviously I think he probably had something important to do or something came up. But guys know what it is.”
Patrick Beverley says he had a coach overseas who believed in the value of practicing constantly. Sixers have practiced frequently under Nick Nurse
“And we’ve been shooting the shit out the ball lately”
Doc Rivers reflecting on the Celtics series last year: “I thought Game 6 was our game. I didn’t think Joel got the ball enough. And trust me, it was for him to get it.”
Do you anticipate getting Embiid back?
Nurse: “It’s certainly at least four weeks before we get a read on where he’s going to be. That puts us in early March. I think we play until early to mid April, so I think there’s a good possibility, yeah.”
Kelly Oubre: Knicks fans are amazing, MSG is one of my favorite places to play, they understand and appreciate basketball culture
The replies to this tweet:
Pat Beverley on Jaden Springer’s work ethic.
“Two months, almost three months ago I showed up to UCLA, and he had been there. I think with that attitude and that discipline…putting it all in the team, putting it all in basketball, nothing but good stuff happens from there”
ESPN Sources: Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid is nearing a return and expected to play this week. The reigning MVP has been out since January 30 with a left meniscus injury. His status for Tuesday vs. OKC is expected later today.
Nick Nurse said after the game he had been planning on moving Oubre to the bench to give him more opportunities if he had played tonight.
So he was asked if he was strongly considering moving Lowry to the starting lineup.
“I’m medium-ly strongly considering it”
Nick Nurse says De'Anthony Melton told him he feels fine after playing in Tuesday's game against the Pistons.
"He's not doing cartwheels and stuff up and down the court or anything, but he's fine.
"We'll throw him out there for longer tomorrow if we can. We certainly want to
Sources: The Philadelphia 76ers are converting two-way G/F Ricky Council IV on a new four-year, $7.4 million NBA contract. Adds $864K in new money this season. CEO Adie von Gontard of Young Money APAA negotiated deal. Council has averaged 5.7 points in 9.3 minutes over 30 games.
Sixers head coach Nick Nurse on the next steps for Jaden Springer's development.
"Great on-ball defense, an extra possession getter. It's still gonna come down to, can he make shots?"
