A 4x4 schedule will ask students to complete double the work in one half the time. Rather than reduce stress, a 4x4 schedule threatens to increase stress and workload for students

The 4x4 schedule is incompatible with IB curriculum and programming and has the potential to harm student learning and deny our students a pathway to college credit.

Year long academic and socio-emotional support classes such as AVID and 9th grade Student Success courses will be reduced to one semester, or half the year.

A 4x4 schedule could result in a student going nearly a year (April 2020 to February 2021) without that opportunity, impacting learning and performance in subsequent years.

A semester-based model will severely diminish student learning in courses that require near daily practice and skill development. Math, World Language, and Visual and Performing Arts courses require regular practice to learn and retain.

The 4x4 schedule is incredibly detrimental to so many programs across the curriculum, including World Language, Science, but especially the Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA). Severe ramifications of a 4x4 schedule will include:

a 4x4 schedule will not only damage essential academic school programs, increase racial disparities, create more stress, increase workloads for students and severely impact community and support systems,

The time is now. With new proposed investments in direct student supports (social workers, counselors, culturally-specific partnerships & more), I am discontinuing the regular presence of School Resource Officers @PPSConnect. We need to re-examine our relationship with the PPB.

A powerful, important, urgent message delivered by @Super_GGuerrero at Tuesday's Board of Education meeting. We invite you to take a few minutes to watch and listen and join the superintendent in building a better future for all students and families.
"For me this is personal. As a Latino...I’ve chosen to commit my life to this work. And I live in a community where the beneficiaries of our racist system call into question my commitment and moral courage to lead racial equity work." - @Super_GGuerrero

We recently learned that @PPSConnect senior leadership was all set to move forward with a 7-period day at all middle schools, providing equitable access to programs for students, but the @PATSolidarity said “no”. Somebody please explain why. @JonGarc1a

This is significant. Keep this in mind during Middle School Redesign discussions.
“in other words, highly engaged instrumental music students were, on average, academically over 1 year ahead of their peers.” @KristenBrayson
