Very sad but i dont think this should be the responsibility of the Police unkess the death is the result of criminality or a incident such as Grenfell etc

@PC_Angry The employer has a duty of care to its staff. Supporting a family through a sudden death whilst employed is the least they should do. Moral responsibility

@PC_Angry Organisation has a duty of care to what we at times call "police family" it is the very very least we can do for a fallen colleague regardless of the circumstances

@Xenosmilus4 I personally wouldnt be quick to judge those who have been in such a terrible place that they saw no other option.

@PC_Angry That's the coroners and undertakers role It is sad but symptomatic of a need to find blame in the wrong places

@PC_Angry Sorry she has lost her husband but she is mistaking policing with the coroners office. One deals with the aftermath of death, the other the law if a crime was committed.

@PC_Angry Iโm sorry for their loss but this is not a police matter! Bereavement & grief is horrific and there is a lack of support and services but itโs really not a Police matter

@PC_Angry The Coroner's Officer usually picks this up and would direct the family to the various bereavement support services.

@PC_Angry As sad as it is, how many jobs do they want police to cover? Family, friends, neighbours, bereavement councillors, Samaritans ... some police seniority not looking after their own officers!

@PC_Angry They call a Family Liaison Officer (an FLO, assigned as an investigator embedded in families of those killed in crime) a Family Support Officer Whilst FLOโs do support families by guiding them through the investigative & legal process they are not social workers or psychiatrists

@PC_Angry I bet the ยฃ20 in the back of my phone that some boss or a pen pusher in the college of policing is looking at this going โ I could get a promotion out of thisโ so will look to implement it and send officers on a 2 day course or 1 hours Ncalt and they can dealt with this too.

@PC_Angry Always remember getting a complaint made against me, because I hadn't cleaned the blood stains at a scene in a family home. I did try and explain that wasn't my role, but hey ho

@PC_Angry Simply no. Policing for too long has been the stop gap for every failing service. Mental health is not for them to specialise in. Would the same be expected from the ambulance service, the coroners office or any other body who were part of this tragic matter. As usual the straw

@PC_Angry Agree. The police are not mental health experts. Such support should come from the NHS.

@PC_Angry Agree how is the polices responsibility. Do we just add councillor to all the other roles we perform that other organisations should?

@PC_Angry At what point do the police stop being the go to organisation for any and everything? I cannot see what this has got to do with the police at all.

@PC_Angry I attended several suicides in my police time. To be honest once any question of foul play was ruled out police interest ceased quite rightly. Not our job.

@PC_Angry I feel for her and all the bereaved family, But, how many name laws do we need? I wonder if she feels guilty over his choice of leaving and she is trying to shift blame to ease her conscience! There is plenty of help/support out there all she has to do is ask.

@PC_Angry When my husband died in 2023, I didn't expect anything from the police. He didn't take his lufe but he did cause his own death. The coroner was fantastic. Very supportive, compassionate and available for questions and my kids school arranged bereavement support for the kids.

@PC_Angry Nor do I. Surely support and 'what to expect' would be better placed with charities dealing with such situations?

@PC_Angry I thought the same. The Registrar immediately sent us information when my Dad died. Followed by close contact with the coroner's office. When we attended the inquest we were met on arrival and had the process fully explained.

@PC_Angry Not from the police no. Maybe improved signposting to someone in Local Authority etc who can advise on benefits, procedures, etc etc. And be a SPOC for the family. But not a full FLO for this kind of case.
