Building a traffic calming bulb-out in Ottawa can take years to get approved and cost more than $100-250k. These bulb-outs in Quebec City are a fraction of the cost and delightful too. More of these please! #Quebec

We are in a housing emergency and yet we consistently demonize new housing. We want local business, but don't want to put more customers near them. We want parks, but we don't want to pay for them. Unreal. #lansdowne

Nice to see Zibi really taking shape. Still my favourite ongoing development. Feels like it will really tie the two sides of the river together.

Line 1 "has been a game changer for Bluesfest" - only a minute away from Pimisi Station. Good job @OC_Transpo fo keeping it open this time. This is what it is for - moving large volumes of people.

OC Transpo is reassuring passengers confused and frustrated by the partial closure of Pimisi station during last weekend's Canada Day festivities that they won't encounter similar problems when...

West Argyle Street in Chicago is a perfect example of a shared street that leaves something to be desired. The streetscape is there, but you need more people to live very close by or adjacent to the street and more aggressive traffic calming. https://t.co/kMBj1dpJuU

Shared Streets Yes - signage and the streetscaping are important, but also the proximity of active-frontage buildings (and residences) to the street. When it comes to creating vibrant shared streets in North America, that should be part of the equation as well. Photo is in #Paris

Not all people-friendly public spaces need to be spacious / grand. In fact, smaller spaces can be intimate and inviting. The courtyard is one of the best. #myottawa

The "613 flat" is a brilliant way to increase density. This single family home in Beechwood / Vanier area was turned into 4 homes. That's 3 additional households on the same land, 3 additional customers for the local shops. Anyone have other examples? #myottawa

We should not need to absorb more lands outside the city which cost more to service. #myottawa

While some of the land included in the image may be controversial, the point is if we look hard enough, we really should not have to expand the urban boundary. Between the development of vacant land, excessively sized parking lots, and re-developing low-density areas...

This is 1,750 hectares. ✅no expansion necessary ✅saves taxpayers by using existing services ✅more people to support local business ✅better use of existing transit ✅saves money We have the land we need inside the city. A thread...

OC would not lose existing transit riders who use the Park and Ride (they would continue to have access to leased parking). Lastly, OC could start to get out of the business of owning and operating parking, focus on transit, and encourage supportive development. @BetterSouthKeys

OC could then sell to Ottawa Community Housing to develop affordable housing, People living there would bring new transit ridership given they live next to the station. Smart Centres would benefit from new shoppers living beside the mall. ...more below...

What if OC Transpo were to sell their current park and ride lot and instead lease some of the unused parking from Smart Centres instead? ....more below...

Japan is exemplary when it comes to transit-oriented development and are one of the highest per-capita transit usage countries in the world. A key part of their success is by leveraging property. We should consider this. #Japan

This before and after shows what used to be just a "road closure" to prevent cut-through traffic is now a proper usable space AND a road closure. This is a great example of a space serving multiple purposes. Winston Square #myottawa
