In Appalachian folklore, Jack Frost was sometimes blamed for “window flowers” — intricate frost patterns believed to be messages from the spirit world. People read them like omens for the coming year. #LegendaryWednesday

In Icelandic folklore, the winter spirit Jökulfru (“Ice Lady”) was said to walk across frozen lakes at night. Her footsteps didn’t crack the ice — they strengthened it. Fishermen prayed to her for crossing ice safely. #FairyTaleTuesday #WinterSolstice

Witch hazel is one of the strangest winter miracles: spidery scented petals unfurling in the cold. Settlers used its forked branches for divining water. In Appalachian lore, witch‑hazel blooms were said to flare brighter on nights when spirits wandered. #FolkloreSunday
