Therapy is great but one hour a week is not enough to fix you or heal you. It takes actions and reflection everyday of the week to make you better. Therapy is one piece to the puzzle. Also great friends that help you sift through everything on a regular basis.

what it takes to standout and shine in the legal profession. I just hope and pray my entire career isn’t me fighting for a job. I want stability, growth, and longevity somewhere. I want to do something meaningful and work with a great group of people who are as passionate as me.

But in the end our elitist profession doesn’t seem to value those things. Also if the job market is so bad, why do I get emails for job postings everyday and why are recruiters openly scouting to fill positions? I don’t think I’m perfect but I know I’m enough. I know I’ve done…

My school was the most diverse school in San Diego, they valued veterans like me, and my academic advisors were extremely helpful. Not only that, we had amazing professors who are well known in their respective fields. I learned a lot from them.

Because of the low ranking law school that I graduated from, or because the job market is slow. But how will I get that firm experience if I don’t get job offers at firms? Despite my law school having a low rank, it was the best school and best experience for me.

But more and more, it’s looking like I’ll have to go out on my own to practice law. Because despite my track record of academic success and my proven skill in practice, I keep getting closed doors. I’ve been told it’s because I don’t have enough firm experience or…

I have had so many doors shut on me. I’ve had to play the game of probability in the sense that I apply for a LARGE number of jobs in different areas both in CA and DC just to get one opportunity. Pretty soon I’ll be licensed in MD too. I’m hoping that will help my odds as well.

I just watched an interview of a Black woman lawyer known as The Biz Lawyer and I felt so deeply connected to her story because it’s a lot like mine. Despite being at the top of my class, despite being editor in chief of my law review, despite having amazing internships…

My goodness, the way Black people — and speaking from my particular experience — the way black women especially navigate the legal field is nothing short of amazing. We get knocked down and we get shut out but we then go on to make our own path.
