While ascending from one of the deepest trenches in the Atlantic Ocean, the expedition team came across a particular polychaete of interest.  One of the new species from the #SouthSandwichIslands expedition is this scale worm, collected 2859m depth in the South Sandwich Trench.

Guess what, you can age a fish by its ear! Fish have a series of small bones in their inner ear called otoliths that grow out from the centre, like the rings of a tree.  These tiny timekeepers are being studied on @CSIRO’s Coral Sea expedition.
