Thoughts on software and other things

I know I'm not the first one to notice this, but I'm getting frustrated by how half of the search results for things like how-tos and tech reviews are now #AIslop . This is stuff where real-world experience really matters (and which affects how I spend my money).

Fun video by @robwordsYT about some aspects of German that are difficult for English speakers https://t.co/Zr3R3jJXrL I'm actually experiencing a lot of the same things as I've been learning Dutch. I just started learning separable verbs and yes, they are extremely confusing.

This is a fun bug: I was checking my credit card activity online and for some reason some entries were randomly bolded. Checked the CSS and found the reason: The bold font applies to entries with the word "Total" in them. @ChaseSupport

I've decided to change my longtime #email address. Here's what I've learned in the process:

Last year I decided to change my e-mail address. I’ve used the same Yahoo e-mail address since elementary school, so this was a major undertaking. I’ve done the best I can, and there are some things...

I’ve had the Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card for a few years now, and it’s been pretty good value for what I pay for it. But it’s undergoing some major changes later this year and I’m wondering if...

Got a fancy information packet about the new Chase Sapphire Reserve card benefits... Funnily enough I've been meaning to write about how I don't see much value in them personally and that I might downgrade to the Preferred (spoilers!).

"TV news reporters overusing -ing verbs, viewers frustrated at what they call 'missing verbs.'" This still bugs me whenever I watch the news, and I'm clearly not the only one. This article was originally published over 20 years ago and is still relevant:

Some things rarely change. TV news writing is one of them, unfortunately. More than a decade ago, I noticed something about both network and local newscasts that drove me nuts and wrote a column...

Workaround is to use a saved card... Apparently while I was dealing with this all the basic economy tickets on my preferred flight were taken and I had to go for a much later flight instead -_-

@united This was on Firefox 128 on Linux. Didn't fare much better with Chrome(ium) 133. On Chrome it cleared the inputs a few times before freezing. Really wondering what sort of frontend framework craziness is going on to make it so slow (and cross-browser incompatible?).

Can't buy a ticket on @united 's website using TravelBank. For some reason, autoformatting for the credit card info isn't working and so the expiration date is "invalid." Compare with trying to purchase with only credit card as payment. (Fake CC details for demo purposes)

I've pretty much always filed my own taxes, and sometimes I wish it was a little easier. Looking at the state of electronic income-tax filing in the US, with some potential alternatives to commercial software: https://t.co/blRLUKA5nZ

Possibly stuck in a jury duty limbo because of my PO box in a different county
objectboxpc.name
I recently received an Orange County jury summons. The thing is, I don’t live in Orange County and I wonder if the legal system has put me in some sort of limbo where I won’t actually serve jury duty.

Received a scam call regarding a supposed "official complaint" about violation of US law (forgot the exact wording). Number was spoofed to the actual number of an ICE field office. Similar to this (except it was an OPLA office, not FOIA):
